Purfect Finish installs new sewer
It was 2001 when Purfect Finish installed their first Aster sewer, a factory refurbished model which has served them well ever since. The market however has developed since then and the demand for top quality sewing on a wider range of books led them to search out a modern replacement. With a need for higher productivity, quicker make-ready and the ability to sew ever thinner books the choice was made to install a new Meccanotecnica Aster EVO sewer supplied by KOLBUS UK.
The Aster EVO is a compact machine featuring a front guard which slides open automatically to easily overview functions. It is versatile and can handle products as small as 75 mm x 120 mm right up to a maximum of 320 mm x 420 mm with a maximum signature thickness of 1.5 mm. Operating at speeds up to 200 cycles/minute it features an accelerator wheel which can be programmed to suit the thickness of each signature and which automatically adjusts to the machine speed.
Bernard Hickey, Managing Director, said: »Back in the 1980’s we were probably the first bookbinder to introduce PUR binding, hence the company name! We still produce a lot of PUR, burst and perfect bound books but when customers are looking for top quality lay flat products they are increasingly specifying thread sewn. With the demand for shorter runs, thinner products and consistent high quality we saw the new Aster EVO as an ideal machine for our needs.«
Greg Bird, Director of Sales KOLBUS UK, said: »We are pleased that Purfect Finish have chosen to replace their sewer with another machine from Meccanotecnica. We know how important product quality and customer deadlines are to them and this choice underlines their confidence in the Aster EVO together with our KOLBUS service and back-up.«
