Kolbus KM600 binder line for Gomer Press
As part of a £3million investment programme Gomer Press, are installing a Kolbus KM600 binder with ZU804 Gatherer at their Llandysul, West Wales, plant.
Gomer Press is the largest independent publisher in Wales producing books in both Welsh and English languages and is this year celebrating 120 years in the business. Present managing director Jonathan Lewis, great grandson of the founder, was instrumental in planning the current expansion of the book production side of the business. With 120 of their own titles to produce each year, a move into digital production and increased demand for trade printing and binding work, Gomer Press needed to increase capacity and productivity.
To fulfil their binding requirements the Kolbus KM600 binder being installed has a high specification including PUR and hot melt glue options and in-line end-papering. Together with the Kolbus ZU 804 Gatherer it will handle both the increased output and wider format range for Gomer Press. In particular the PUR option will enable them to produce high quality digital products. Specifying in-line end-papering in the new machine will greatly enhance their book block production, speeding up the process and bringing higher quality to the products.
Jonathan Lewis, Gomer Press managing director, said: “With our digital output increasing the Kolbus KM600’s ability to produce short run products at both high quality and speed is really important to us. This capacity, alongside bigger format range, will enable us to process a wider range of books and printed products”.
