FLB Group install KOLBUS embossing machine
The KOLBUS PE 312 processes the whole bandwidth of cover materials and can be used for blind, relief or film embossing of rigid, flexible, and plastic cases at up to 85 cycles/minute. It can be adapted for optimal processing of different materials by stepless adjustment of temperature and embossing pressure and by adjusting embossing time in steps of 10 seconds. Make-ready time can be saved by preparing the matrix plate offline.
The newly installed machine will be used to further enhance the quality of FLB Group products as well as improving productivity. Typically, they are making cases and flexible covers incorporating intricate designs utilising metallic foils, blind blocking, and unique personalisation.
Rob Landells, Bindery Manager FLB Group, said: “We are very happy with the machine, it is well built and will comfortably achieve the targets we have set. The embossing press will be producing desk and pocket-sized hard case diaries so the versatility of the machine is important. The quick set up enables us to run big and small volumes too. KOLBUS operator training is excellent and Kia Austin, one of six apprentices at the plant, is being trained on this machine to ensure continuity of operator skill”.
Greg Bird, KOLBUS UK Managing Director, said: “It was a thrilling project to install a KOLBUS Embossing Press into such a highly skilled and historic book production site as FLB. Whilst providing increased production output possibilities, it was pleasing to be part of continuing to improve the quality of products that this business has developed and produced for many years.”
